Yarn, needles and knitting tension
Knitting needles
Recommended needle size:
3.5mm / US 4
(or the needle size that gives the correct expression in relation to the chosen yarn)
Knitting tension:
There is no set knitting tension as the scarf can be adjusted according to yarn choice and desired size. Choose a needle that matches the yarn and create the look you want.
Yarn selection
The scarf is knitted with two different yarns – alternating two needles with each quality. You can combine solid and multi-colored yarns for a vibrant and graphic look.
The model in the pattern is knitted with:
- Yarn 1: Two strands of solid color yarn knitted together
– total running length: approx. 250 m / 273 yds per 100 g (3.5 oz)
– approximately equal to DK weight (US category 3)
– total consumption: approx. 80–125 g = 200–310 m / 220–340 yds - Yarn 2: One strand multi-colored yarn (lace–fingering weight)
– running length: approx. 380 m / 415 yds per 100 g (3.5 oz)
– consumption: approx. 50–100 g = 190–380 m / 210–415 yds
Total yarn consumption:
Approx. 130–225 g – equivalent to 390–690 m / 430–755 yds
The exact yarn information for the model can be found in the pattern.
Description
Construction
Hexa Scarf is made up of triangles that are knitted one at a time and continuously assembled into a graphic scarf in either small or large size.
The scarf begins with six triangles that together form a hexagon – the starting point for the entire construction. From here, the work continues module by module, picking up stitches along the way so that the triangles are knitted directly together without assembly.
iCord edges are knitted at the same time as the triangles, so the scarf has neat finished edges.
The name
The name Hexa refers to the scarf's starting point: a hexagon created by six knitted triangles. From here, the work grows in a rhythmic and geometric pattern.
The design is based on modular knitting and garter knitting – and provides ample opportunity to play with colors, textures and yarn scraps.
