The length and width of the finished scarf depends on yarn choice, needle size, number of stitches and number of triangles.

The pattern includes three models:

  • Model A: Scarf with gradient color
  • Model B: Striped scarf with two different yarn qualities
  • Model C: Solid color scarf with lace pattern

All yarn thicknesses and needle sizes can be used. The models shown and their measurements are shown in the pattern and pictures.

Knitting needles

Recommended needle size in the pattern:
3.0–4.0 mm / US 2½–6
(or the needle size that suits the chosen yarn and desired look)

Knitting tension:
There is no specific knitting tension in the pattern – the scarf can be knitted in any yarn thickness and with any needle size. The thicker the yarn and larger the needles, the bigger and more powerful the expression will be.

Yarn selection

The scarf can be knitted in many different yarn types and qualities.
For example, choose:

  • Yarn with color gradient (in the pattern – lace, fingering or sport weight)
  • Solid color yarn – one color per triangle
  • Leftover yarn in several colors and qualities

The models in the pattern are knitted with wool, cotton and mohair blends. The yarn quantity and measurements are stated in the pattern and depend on the number of triangles.

Tria Scarf is a modular scarf, where each triangle is knitted separately – and directly together with the previous one.

The work begins with an iCord cast-on, from which stitches are picked up to the first triangle. The subsequent triangles are worked by picking up stitches from the previous one, with an iCord on the side. The last triangle is finished with iCord on both sides for a neat edge.

The length of the scarf can be adjusted as desired – the more triangles, the longer the scarf. There are no seams, and the construction gives great freedom in both size and color combination.

The pattern includes three different versions:
Model A: Knitted in yarn with a color gradient – but the scarf can also be made with each triangle in its own color.
Model B: Knitted alternately with two different colors and yarn qualities (two needles of each).
Model C: Knitted in solid-colored yarn with a small lace pattern.

You can use whatever yarn and needles you want – there are no knitting gauge requirements. On the front of the pattern there is an overview of models, yarn consumption and measurements, which can be used as guidance and inspiration.

The name

Tria refers to the triangle shape. The simple modular knit gives room to play with colors and structure – and makes the scarf suitable for both solid and multi-colored yarns.
