Yarn selection
The shawl is knitted with two different yarns – alternating two rows with each type. You can combine yarns with color changes and solid colors for a vibrant and graphic look.
- Yarn 1: Approx. 150–200 g wool, alpaca, mohair, or similar – with a yardage of approx. 350–400 m / 382–437 yds per 100 g (3.5 oz)
- Yarn 2: Approx. 150–200 g of yarn with color changes – e.g., in the same thickness or slightly lighter yarn (lace–fingering weight)
Total amount of yarn:
Approximately 300–400 g in total – equivalent to approximately 1050–1600 m / 1150–1750 yds.
In addition, a small remnant of cotton yarn is used for temporary casting on.
The exact description of the yarn used for the model in the picture is given in the pattern.
Description
Construction
Hexa Shawl with iCord is an exciting modular shawl that is knitted entirely in stockinette stitch – without any sewing.
The work begins with a hexagon in the center, formed by six smaller triangles. Then smaller and larger triangles are knitted out from the hexagon – one at a time. Stitches are picked up along the way, so there is no sewing. An iCord edge is knitted all the way around at the same time, giving the shawl a finished and elegant look.
The model is ideal for experimenting with colors and combining different yarn qualities – and you can adjust the color distribution as you wish.
The name
Hexa refers to the starting point for the shawl's construction – a composition of six triangles that together form a hexagon. This shape forms the center of the shawl and is the starting point for the further modular knitting.
