Yarn selection

The shawl is knitted with two types of yarn, both with the same yardage:

  • Yarn 1: Approx. 200 g (800 m /874 yds) (e.g. alpaca, wool or mohair)
Solid color or yarn with a long color run
  • Yarn 2: Approx. 150 g (570 m / 623 yds) yarn with a shorter color run - e.g. 3 balls of 50 g Mille Colori Baby (Lang Yarns)
Knitting strength

22 stitches = 10 cm (4 in) in garter stitch (garter ridge)

The model in the picture

Yarn 1: Puno - color 978.0015
Yarn 2: Mille Colori Baby - color 845.0096
Both from Lang Yarns (note: discontinued colors)

Construction

The shawl is knitted in modular triangles where stitches are picked up along the way - without seams. First the 8 small triangles are worked one at a time. Then knit the two large triangles that make up the "wings" of the shawl. Finally, add the edge - either by knitting or crocheting it on. The entire shawl is worked in stripes using two different yarns with color gradients, giving contrast and depth to the graphic look.
