Knitting needles

Recommended needle size:
3.5 mm / US 4 (circular needles recommended due to the large number of stitches)

Gauge

The gauge is not critical, but it affects yarn consumption and the finished dimensions.

The model in the picture is knitted with:
22 stitches = 10 cm (4 in) in garter stitch (garter ridges)

Yarn choice

The pattern can be knitted with:

• Fingering weight yarn (approx. 400 m / 100 g)
• Sport weight yarn (approx. 320 m / 100 g)
• Lace weight yarn – two strands held together (approx. 800 m / 100 g)

The most important thing is that the gauge results in a fabric you are happy with.

Yarn consumption

• Approx. 380 g in total
• Approx. 2300–2400 m / 2500–2600 yds
• Approx. 25 different colours are used – but both fewer and more can easily be used

Tip: Perfect as a scrap project – small amounts in many colours can be used – and there are endless combination possibilities.

Construction

The shawl is knitted in a symmetrical shape, but has an asymmetrical expression. It consists of a modular knitted central section of triangles that together form hexagons. Stripes of varying widths are knitted on each side, and the shawl is finished with an i-cord edge.

The Name

"Sjal i farver" (Colorful Shawl)came about from the many colours that can be combined in the design – and because the melody "sjæl i flammer" (soul in flames) came to mind. The combination of colours and music naturally led to the name.
